A few amino acid defined formulas are shown below. This type of diet is used when a diet needs to be deficient in one or more amino acids, or adjustments need to be made to specific amino acid levels.
Formula examples:
Sometimes this type of diet is used to further reduce the background level of certain vitamins that are found in protein sources such as casein or vitamin-free (alcohol extracted) casein. Some folic acid deficient diets utilize this approach.
The amino acid profile for most amino acid defined diets is based on work by Harper and Rogers (J. Nutr. (1965) 87:267-276) and is not representative of the amino acid profile of an intact protein source such as casein. Other amino acid profiles can be specified. When an amino acid(s) is removed or reduced, isonitrogenous adjustment can be made if required.
Please email us at askanutritionist@envigo.com for additional formulas of this nature or for more information about altering the amino acid profile of a diet.

Diamond TEK
A white dimpled traditional cage board material. Diamond TEK liners are the new standard for laboratory grade custom-cut cage liners. The bright white color aids in observation of animal discharges. The heavier construction means they are more absorbent and more durable — often meaning that the interval between cage changes can be increased. That means that they can save you money by reducing labor costs, and by using fewer liners per year. There are no antibiotics added to these liners, and there is no glue used in the lamination process, reducing the risk of chemical contamination.
Diamond PADS
These pads are white multi-ply tissue liners with poly backing. Available in both 8-ply or 14-ply thickness. Ideal for under rabbits or rodents, they can also be used as workplace blotters or to clean up spills in the lab.
Our liners are custom-cut to within 1/4 inch of your tray or pan dimensions. Minimum orders required for non-stocked items.

Products > Optimize Reagents > Optimize – Buffers > Citric acid BIS-TRIS propane Buffer
Citrate BIS-TRIS propane (CBTP) is a buffer system useful across pH 2.5 to 9.5.
Using CBTP one can use a single buffer system to screen pH 2.5 to 9.5 by varying the ratio of Citric acid to BIS-TRIS propane. Although the two buffer reagents are made available separately for convenient, individual replacement, they are designed to be used together, with the supplied CBTP buffer titration table to create a crystallization buffer system covering pH 2.5 to 9.5.

Products > Optimize Reagents > Optimize – Cryoprotectants > Perfluoropolyether Cryo Oil
Used during cryocrystallography to displace and reduce the amount of water (mother liquor, reagent) on the crystal after the crystal is mounted in a cryoloop. Coating the crystal with oil can minimize evaporation from the crystal and reduce exposure and slow diffusion of air (oxygen) to the crystal.
Perfluoropolyether Cryo Oil offers low viscosity, extremely low vapor pressure, low surface tension, excellent chemical inertness and excellent thermal stability.
Dip the mounted crystal into the oil to displace surface water. Or add a small amount of Perfluoropolyether to the crystallization drop before mounting the crystal. After adding the Perfluoropolyether, mount the crystal using a Mounted Cryoloop. Withdraw the mounted crystal from the drop and the Perfluoropolyether will coat the mounted crystal. Cryogenically cool the mounted crystal.

Products > Optimize Reagents > Optimize – Solubilizing Agents (NDSB) > NDSB-256
The NDSB are a group of zwitterionic compounds that can reduce aggregation and aid in refolding proteins found in inclusion bodies and bacterial expression systems.
Non detergent sulfobetaines have a sulfobetaine hydrophilic group and a short hydrophobic group that cannot aggregate to form micelles, therefore NDSB’s are not considered detergents. NDSB increase the extraction yield (up to 30%) of membrane, nuclear and cyto-skeletal associated proteins. The short hydrophobic groups combined with the charge neutralization of the sulfobetaine group results in higher yields of membrane proteins. NDSB have been used in refolding and renaturation of chemically and thermally denatured proteins.
Typical useful NDSB concentration in protein sample is 0.5-1.0 M.

Standard natural ingredient diets fulfill many everyday needs of laboratory animal colonies for breeding, growth and maintenance. These diets consist of relatively unrefined agricultural commodities such as grains, grain by-products, concentrated plant protein sources, animal proteins, and vitamins, minerals and fats.
Diets by species:
Contact us at askanutritionist@inotivco.com to learn more about the difference of using Teklad laboratory animal diets.
When carefully chosen, standard natural ingredient diet will support many research objectives.
Note: Standard natural ingredient diets may also be referred to simply as “standard,” “grain-based,” or “chow.”
Natural ingredients are chemically complex, containing a variety of nutritive and non-nutritive components, both of which can have significant effects on your research. We work to minimize variation in nutrient and non-nutrient levels through the combination of:
With this high-quality production process, you can expect more consistent results.
Selecting ingredients for a diet is an important step. In our Teklad Global Rodent Diets , soybean meal is reduced or excluded in order to lower or minimize isoflavone levels. Isoflavones, a type of phytoestrogen, have been shown to affect many research endpoints.
Likewise, alfalfa meal is excluded due to the presence of a different class of phytoestrogen. Additionally, this omission vastly improves the clarity of fluorescent imaging because the chlorophyll content of the diet is minimized.
Note: Terminology used to describe laboratory animal diets is not consistent across the industry. In this context, we use the phrase “natural ingredient” to denote the relative lack of processing of the ingredients. Natural ingredient diets might also be referred to as “standard”, “grain-based” or “chow” — terms that may convey some information about the nature of the diet or how it is used but may not provide enough clarity for your purposes.
Products > Crystallization Screens > Grid Screens > Grid Screen Ammonium Sulfate
Grid Screen™ Ammonium Sulfate is a preformulated reagent kit designed to provide a rapid screening method for the crystallization of biological macromolecules.
The screen is simple and practical for finding initial crystallization conditions as well as determining the solubility of a macromolecule in Ammonium sulfate between pH 4.0 and 9.0. Grid Screen Ammonium Sulfate systematically evaluates Ammonium sulfate at four concentrations (0.8, 1.6, 2.4, 3.0 M) versus 6 pH levels (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).
Grid Screen Ammonium sulfate consists of 24 unique reagents, each supplied as 10 milliliter in sterile, screw cap tubes. Ready-to-use reagents are sterile filtered and formulated with ultra-pure Type 1 water, using the highest purity salt and buffers. Individual reagents are available through the Hampton Research Custom Shop.

Products > 96 Well Crystallization Plates > Paul Marienfeld > LCP Sandwich Set
The LCP Sandwich Set consists of a base glass slide and an optimized cover slip. LCP Sandwich Set developed jointly with the renowned Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, USA and is manufactured by Paul Marienfeld (0890003).
The LCP Glass Sandwich Set is a specially designed plate for either automated or manual setting of 96 Lipidic Cubic Phase matrix screening experiments. The plate can also be used for the bicelle method and batch method. The thin (< 2 mm high) plates have exquisite optical properties and are well suited for the detection of microcrystals and for birefringence-free imaging between crossed polarizers. The plates allow for in meso crystallization trials with 50 nanoliters protein/lipid mesophase and 1 microliter precipitant solution per trial.
The 96 well LCP Glass Sandwich Plate consists of a) 127.8 x 85.5 x 1 mm glass base plate with the footprint of an SBS-compliant plate, a 140 µm thick double sticky spacer with 96 punched out holes and b) a 0.2 mm thick glass coverslip. The double sticky spacer is already adhered to the base plate. A brown paper liner covers and protects the top of the double sticky spacer and base plate. The 0.2 mm thick glass coverslip fits over and seals the entire 96 well lower plate. Alternatively a series of twenty-four siliconized 18 x 18 mm No. 1 square cover slides (HR3-152) can be used to seal the entire 96 well lower plate. Each 18 x 18 mm No. 1 cover slide seals 4 wells. Space for a bar code is available at the left end of the plate. Each well can contain 50 nanoliters of cubic phase and 1 microliter of crystallization reagent.
18 x 18 mm No. 1 Siliconized Cover Slides are made from chemically resistant borosilicate glass D 263 M of the first hydrolytic class. The slides are colorless, clear, and suitable for fluorescence microscopy. The slides feature a super hydrophobic surface on both sides. The slides are No. thickness (0.13 ro 0.16 mm). The slides are supplied in a two compartment plastic box, 100 slides per box, 10 boxes per case, 1,000 slides total for HR3-152.
The Tungsten-carbide glass cutter can be used for cutting and removal of the upper coverglass that seals the LCP Sandwich Set. Sold separately.

Products > Cryocrystallography > CryoLoops > Mounted CryoLoop™ – 20 micron
Note: If you are using the CrystalCap, CrystalCap ALS, CrystalCap ALS HT, or CrystalCap SPINE HT, save time and money by using the ready to mount 18 mm Mounted CryoLoop.
Mounted CryoLoops with 20 micron diameter nylon. These nylon loops are bonded to hollow, stainless steel MicroTubes™ that are used to mount, freeze, and secure the crystal during cryocrystallographic procedures and X-ray data collection. The MicroTube is 24 mm in length and is specially engineered with EasySnap™ notches at the 10, 12, 14, 18, and 21 mm measures. To obtain the desired length of MicroTube, simply snap the MicroTube at the desired length and secure to the CrystalCap using epoxy or similar adhesive. These nylon loops show minimal diffraction, are thin for fast freezing, strong, and aerodynamic..
Most data collection geometries prefer or require a 22 mm length between the base of the cap and the beam. For a 22 mm overall length using the CrystalCap, CrystalCap ALS, CrystalCap ALS HT and CrystalCap SPINE HT, snap the MicroTube at the second notch from the bottom, creating an 18 mm MicroTube lenghth and secure to the CrystalCap using epoxy or similar adhesive. For a 22 mm over length using the CrystalCap Copper, CrystalCap Copper HT, CrystalCap ALS Copper HT snap the MicroTube at the fifth notch from the bottom (notch closest to the CryoLoop) and secure to the CrystalCap using epoxy or similar adhesive.
